The only "inspirational" book I've ever read that was actually inspirational. Don't let the premise scare you off; this book is ultimately among the most life-affirming I have ever read. I have never been able to keep a copy for myself - I've either given it away or, in one case, lent it to a friend who then mailed it away to her sister-in-law in another part of the country. I said, "Lori, what did you do? I told you I wanted that book back!" Her simple answer, which made absolute sense, was, "She needed it more than you do."

What an incredible story! Children dealing with cancer, and not letting it destroy or diminish them. In spite of, or because of a life threatening illness, children learn quickly what "is real" in life, and manage to share their wisdom with a very special neurosurgeon. Through all the suffering, battles, defeats and victories, children and all those they touch learn the truth about what is real. They learn how to become the real person they were meant to be and enjoy what really matters, even if for only a short time.
I cried, and smiled reading this treasure.
Dr. Epstein has since passed away, what a great loss.
